Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
A large shrubby plant in the mallow family, grown for the gorgeous fleshy, succulent cranberry calyxes used to make hibiscus tea.
Beautiful cream flowers quickly develop into the fruits. Aside from tea they are delicious made into jams, jellies, cordials and even wine.
Health benefits of hibiscus tea include lowering blood pressure, a source of calcium, niacin, riboflavin, iron, anti-oxidants and vitamin C. used to treat colds, hypertension, poor circulation and even for a hangover relief.
The tart flavour can be used in baking. a wonderful berry like tartness on cheescake.
The plant is very pollinator friendly.

Growing: Sow seeds in early spring. A heat mat will aid germination or place in a warm spot. In areas with warmer winters they can be perennial, but are usually treated as an annual. They do self seed if left to dry naturally.
