Tangerine Tiger Chilli (Capsicum baccatum)
Rare Limited Open-pollinated
An accidental cross between Sugar Rush Peach Stripey and Aji Tangerine by a grower in the USA has yielded one of my favourite chillies.
Green pods transition to yellow then orange with the darker tiger-like stripes evolving as they mature. The plants are incredibly prolific once they get going from mid season.
Juicy, thick-walled crunch, highly fruity and sweet with floral notes, a gentle heat thats subtle and doesn't linger. SHU 5000-10000.
These are a multi purpose chilli and can be used fresh, in salsas and salads, for pickling and a really delicious sauce. I combine fresh peaches for a fruity sweet chilli sauce which is incredible on chicken, in sauces, dips and on cheese.
Sowing: Pepper seeds benefit from bottom heat and germinate quickly in warm soil. Start seeds late winter to early spring in trays with moisture retentive, well-draining soil and keep damp not wet. Cover seeds with 5mm of soil. Cover seed trays to hold the humidity in. Germination occurs at 24-29C. Remove cover once sprouts are up.
Quantity: 10 seeds
