Turkish Snake Chilli
Rare Limited Open-pollinated
Dripping in long curly snake-like peppers, this gorgeous chilli plant is so ornamental. The chillies begin life green ripening to a bright cheerful red. They can be used at all stages, but get fruitier as they ripen.
I love using them to make a pickle, a delicious accompaniment on a charcuterie board with meats and cheeses. They are mild in flavour, but do have a little bite. Use fresh in salads, fry up a panful or add to meat and veggie dishes. A superb, fun and quirky pepper.
Sowing: Pepper seeds benefit from bottom heat and germinate quickly in warm soil. Start seeds late winter to early spring in trays with moisture retentive, well-draining soil and keep damp not wet. Cover seeds with 5mm of soil. Cover seed trays to hold the humidity in. Germination occurs at 24-29C. Remove cover once sprouts are up.
